India is losing ₹14 lakh crore annually, or 4.3% of its GDP, due to corrosion, according to a Nomura report. The analysis highlights that corrosion significantly impacts power generation, telecommunications, and transportation infrastructure. It also raises concerns about the sustainability of India’s rapidly expanding real estate sector.

Stainless Steel Rebars Gain Traction

Stainless steel rebars are becoming a preferred choice among developers due to their durability, corrosion resistance, and low lifecycle costs. This shift reflects a growing emphasis on long-term benefits over initial cost savings.

The Nomura report shows that corrosion accelerates asset deterioration, increases maintenance and repair expenses, compromises safety, and reduces infrastructure productivity. It suggests that enhanced corrosion protection could boost India’s GDP by up to 1.5% through extended asset life and reduced maintenance costs.
