Courtney and Sev, contestants on The Block, are at risk of being disqualified due to their budget management. The show’s producers are concerned that the pair may not be able to afford the features they have planned for their outdoor area and garage.
House 1’s Adam and Jolene recently won a challenge, but other contestants are questioning the judges’ decision. Wyatt, a contestant on House 2, thinks his team did a better job and says, “I’ve seen enough to know it’s not worth 29 out of 30.”
Budget Concerns
This week, the Uptown houses are working on three areas: the garage, courtyard, and backyard. The Downtown homes are working on the backyard and garage. House 5 has the biggest space to complete with the smallest budget, at $29,500 for a 539-square-metre space.
House 3 is in dire straits, with Lisa and Rosco not having enough money to finish their house despite their CommBank budgeting award wins. House 2 has a $34,000 budget this week, which Chantel says they will use all of.
Courtney and Sev’s budget for their backyard and garage is $86,000, but they are planning to include expensive features such as a custom shower, bar fridge, and pizza oven. They are also planning a “secret weapon” in their garage: a custom-made curved wine rack.

Production Team Intervention
The Block co-creator and executive producer Julian Cress has stepped in to meet with Courtney and Sev due to concerns about their budget management. Cress warns them, “We’ll disqualify you if you put stuff in that you can’t afford.”
Courtney and Sev are worried about their budget and consider cutting back on some of their planned features. However, their environment designer, Troy Lovett, is opposed to cutting back on anything in his grand backyard plans, leading to a tense conversation.
Sev initially decides to cut their custom wine room but later changes her mind and decides to “roll the dice” and keep the feature. This decision puts them at risk of not being able to afford the work, which could lead to disqualification.
The situation is made more complicated by the fact that if Courtney and Sev can’t make it work and don’t win the next challenge, they will have to do the work themselves without any trades assistance.
