Rent freeze Bill passes first stage at Holyrood

Legislation that would temporarily freeze rents and ban evictions in Scotland has passed its first stage in the Scottish Parliament.

MSPs backed the general principles of the Cost of Living (Tenant Protection) (Scotland) Bill by 88 votes to 29 on Tuesday evening.

Stage two amendments will be taken on Wednesday and a final vote will happen on Thursday.

A motion to treat the Bill as emergency legislation was passed by 86 votes to 28 earlier on Tuesday.

Ace Attorney fans are very upset over an animation that shows Geiru snapping her suspenders into her bust.

If you’re a fan of the Ace Attorney series then you may be aware of the clown girl. For those who aren’t aware it’s probably helpful if I bring you up to speed.

Geiru Toneido is a villain from the 2016 3DS title Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice. To simplifly: She’s the daughter of a famous performer but an instructor tells her she’s not cut out to follow in her father’s footsteps. So she becomes a balloon artist instead, obviously.

Art Installation Honors Victims of Police Brutality

A new Fort Greene art installation, “Witnessing,” uses antiquated emergency call boxes to honor victims of modern-day police brutality. Six 7-foot-tall call boxes outfitted with screens and placed around the plaza at 300 Ashland broadcast video testimonials from victims and survivors of police violence.

The exhibit was originally created by Bradley McCallum over 20 years ago in collaboration with Jacqueline Tarry in response to the citywide protests following the police abuse of Abner Louima in 1997 and Amadou Diallo in 1999. A Winnipeg mother charged in the death of her newborn daughter has a low IQ and little understanding of consequences, a court was told during a previous sentencing hearing — making the current case against her both rare and potentially complex, a legal expert says.
