Missouri football landed a commitment from a former four-star wide receiver on Saturday, when Danny Jackson announced his plans to join the Tigers through the transfer portal. Jackson spent his first three seasons at Ole Miss.
“Committed to The Zou,” Jackson said in a social media post announcing his intentions.
Jackson became the second transfer receiver to commit to Missouri, following Theo Wease, previously of Oklahoma. The Tigers will hope those two, along with returning players like Luther Burden III and Mehki Miller, can help replace the production of Dominic Lovett, who led MU in receiving last season before transferring to Georgia.
Missouri wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler originally recruited Jackson for the Rebels. Jackson was rated as a four-star high school prospect out of Sumrall in Mississippi by the 247Sports composite and chose Ole Miss over a wealth of offers including Mississippi State, Arkansas and Auburn.
Jackson did not play last season after entering the transfer portal in September. His best year as a Rebel came in 2021, when he had 12 catches for 244 yards and two touchdowns.
His only offensive touch in 2022 was a rush for a loss of eight yards. Jackson also returned five kicks for 122 yards.
As a freshman, Jackson saw action in nine games. He had seven catches for 80 yards, plus two rush attempts for a total of 12 yards.
Joe Moore III
Later on Saturday, Missouri secured another transfer portal commitment. Joe Moore III, a defensive end from Arizona State, announced he would join the Tigers.
Moore was a three-star prospect out of high school as a member of the 2020 class. He attended Cardinal Ritter in St. Louis and chose Arizona State over offers from Minnesota and North Carolina, among others.
Moore had originally committed to Washington as a transfer, but ended up reversing the course. He had 24 tackles, including four for loss, with two sacks and a fumble recovery for the Sun Devils last season.
Moore’s father, also named Joe Moore, was a star running back at Missouri. The elder Moore was taken by the Chicago Bears in the 1971 NFL Draft’s first round after leaving the Tigers as the program’s all-time leading rusher, and with the school record for most rushing yards in a season.
Sydney Williams
Eli Drinkwitz and company weren’t done yet. A third portal commitment of the day came from Sidney Williams, a safety from Florida State.
Williams originally hails from New Orleans, before moving to Alabama, where he played his high school football at Vigor in Mobile. He was a three-star prospect in the class of 2020.
The safety had 11 tackles in 12 games for FSU last season. He leaves the Seminoles with 66 total tackles, one interception, four breakups and a recovered fumble.
Williams will have two remaining years of eligibility with the Tigers. He joins a safety group that includes Jaylon Carlies and Joseph Charleston, who were starters last season, along with Daylon Carnell, Marvin Burks, Tyler Hibbler, Tyler Jones and Isaac Thompson.
He’s back
The Tigers received another boost on Saturday when tackle Javon Foster announced he would return for the 2023 season. Foster had been non-committal about his future through the late stages of the season, but Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy reported in December that he planned on returning to school.
Foster’s return could provide a boost to an offensive line that struggled throughout last season. He served as a team captain in 2022 and was named to the Associated Press’ all-SEC second team.
Next year will be Foster’s sixth season at Missouri. He redshirted in 2018 and the 2020 season was not counted against player eligibility.
