Edwin Castro, winner of last year’s record-setting $2 billion Powerball jackpot, has reportedly dropped $25.5 million on a newly built home in Los Angeles.

It’s the most expensive sale in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood in 2023, the Los Angeles Times reported. The sale date was March 1, according to realtor.com.

Castro came forward in February to claim the prize, but did not appear at the news conference announcing his name as winner. He bought the ticket in Altadena, California. Little is publicly known about the man, except that he lived near Los Angeles and is reportedly in his early 30s, as Dirt reported.

But here’s what’s known about the mansion that he purchased for a relative deal. Listed for $29.95 million, as reported by the Sacramento Bee last summer, the modern, five-bedroom, five-bathroom residence spans 13,579 square feet on a .58-acre lot.

Tucked behind gates and overlooking the famous Chateau Marmont hotel and Sunset Strip, the house was designed by Roman James.

With breathtaking views from downtown to Century City, the three-story residence comes with a game room, a wine cellar, movie theater, cold-plunge pool, five-car showroom, rooftop deck and fitness studio. Walls of glass open up to the back patios, an infinity swimming pool and outdoor kitchen.

Lottery officials said at the February news conference that Castro opted to take his winnings in one lump sum, which equals about $997.6 million. Based on that figure, his residential splurge is just 2.6% of his fortune.

The listing agents for the home were Stefan Pommepuy and H. Blair Chang of The Agency.
