Housing inventory is falling and surging in different parts of the US as higher rates distort the market.
A Realtor.com report found that home supply fell in 21 of the 50 largest metropolitan cities in May.
But housing activity has kicked up in the South as increased affordability draws both buyers and sellers.

Mortgage rates are shooting up again, raising home ownership costs

Mortgage rates are climbing again, raising the cost of a home loan to its highest level in seven months.

The average rate on a typical 30-year mortgage is now 6.91%, up from 6.69% a week ago, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) said Wednesday. The average rate on a 15-year home loan increased to 6.41% from 6.15% a week ago.

Gulfport and Grand Isle among the most affordable beach towns | Entertainment/Life

A Mississippi Coast city was recently rated the most affordable beach town in the United States.

Gulfport topped Realtor.com’s 2023 list of the most affordable beach towns, beating out cities like Newport News, Virginia; Corpus Christi, Texas; and Navarre, Florida.

Realtor Tiffany Kirkland of Harper Realty has been selling homes across the Mississippi Coast for three years. She was not surprised by the distinction.

“I think it’s pretty awesome and pretty accurate,” she said. “There are always great deals around here.”
