Styling and arranging décor and accessories are two of the most important things you’ll do while staging a house. These small details on tables, shelves, and consoles add a finishing touch that completes the homey feeling you want. It may feel natural to overthink it all, but it’s best to keep it simple.
Tip #1: Use Trays to Arrange Groupings
If you’re styling shelves, tables or consoles, it’s best to work with groups of three, and using trays is a great way to contain items. Trays look beautiful placed on coffee tables, especially ones made of glass, or on a kitchen counter. If you’re not sure if you should add a tray or not, try it with and without, take a step back to look at it, then decide which looks better. Remember, you don’t want it to feel overdone.
Tip #2: Vary Item Height to Create Eye-Catching Interest
When you arrange items on tables, try to vary their heights. If you have a pair of candle sticks, you should keep them together, but using different heights and colors adds more volume to the group. Mixing different materials in a group will also help add texture and catch the eye.
Tip #3: Arrange Items Asymmetrically for a Natural Look
When positioning your groups of items, try your best to make sure the overall appearance is not completely symmetrical. Symmetrically arranged items tend to look forced, and you want potential buyers to think that the settling of things feels natural. Don’t be afraid to move things around. You should feel satisfied with the final result. If something doesn’t look right, switch it out with something else until you like what you see.
